Somewhere between Kansas and Texas while driving a truck my dad stopped in a pawn shop and bought a Zeiss Ikoflex camera and a darkroom setup. That got my photography started on the farm. Then I stopped going to classes in my senior year of college and started taking pictures for the student newspaper. I never turned back. Fifty years later that college gave me an honorary doctorate. Probably not a good idea, rewarding that kind of adolescent academic revolt, but there it is.
